Our Women Only backpacking
trips can be down and dirty (packing in tent site to tent site) or soft
and sweet (lodge based day hikes). On any of our trips, you can
expect to be challenged. All trips include training in wilderness
travel, orienteering, group dynamics, and backcountry cooking. Some
classes brush on these topics, and others are much more rugged, and
delve in deep. Please be sure to sign up a class that matches your goals
and abilities.
So you have never heard of the Porkies?
The Porcupine Mountains are located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan,
directly north of WI. From Chicago, it is approx. a 8 hour drive
north. The drive is WORTH it! The mountains are nestled right up against
Lake Superior. Steep mountain trails, exposed rock, and scenic overlooks
abound. We run both kayaking and backpacking classes here, so be sure to
check out our next kayaking class in this area! You may encounter black
bear, deer, Peregrine Falcon,
black bear, red squirrel, varying hare, red fox, gray wolf,
coyote, bobcat, porcupine, skunk, and on occasion, a moose.
So
why backpacking? Well it has amazing health benefits, and you also
get to improve other skills that essential in life like team building,
group dynamics, leadership, and somewhat more intangible things like
empathy, trust, and kindness.. So strap on your boots, get your cameras
ready and join us for the best backpacking you can find in the Midwest!
